“When we look at the costs of some of the personal development, team building and other training options that help develop our staff, the cost per employee for Reading for Life’s life changing and empowering experience seems great value for money. Not only have our employees been motivated, their enthusiasm for what they are achieving is infecting their colleagues. We are committed to this program not just because we can put something back into
the community. It is making a real difference to our
employees and our workplace.”
Unilever Australia HR Manager

The 2008 cost of Reading for Life is $A399 (excluding GST) for each volunteer in a program for 15 volunteers (10 participating and five reserves) in the Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Wellington metropolitan areas. The total cost for this program is $A5,980 (excluding GST).

Cost efficiencies will occur when a larger number of volunteers is involved and nearby programs can combine training sessions.

The program’s cost includes the following:

  • Reading for Life Kit and follow-up material if necessary,
  • training session for volunteers,
  • support sessions and telephone support for volunteers,
  • pre and post assessments of children,
  • copies of the evaluations and results of the program, and
  • organisation & support for the program.

An end-of-program party for the children is recommended and we anticipate that this will cost approximately $300.  This has not been included in the total program cost.

If a program is run outside the metropolitan areas listed above, additional travel and accommodation costs may be involved.

A formal evaluation report can be prepared with an analysis of evaluations and children’s results if requested. As Learning Links is a small children’s charity, we cannot absorb the cost of a formal evaluation but would be happy to advise the cost if required.

Learning Links is a charity and deductible gift recipient in Australia.  Donations $2 and over to Learning Links are tax deductible.  Learning Links is also a Category 1 organisation for registered clubs donating under the CDSE scheme in NSW.

Some grant making bodies are able to donate to Learning Links and their grants are not subject to GST. Grant making bodies usually advise Learning Links of the GST status of their grant.

We recommend that you check whether there are any tax benefits regarding this program, including your employee’s volunteering time, with your own accountant.

All enquiries about the cost of the program and a full breakdown can be directed to Learning Links on 0011 612 9534 1710.
