We rely on the generosity of others to help us provide our services to children with disabilities and learning support needs and their families. This generosity comes from many different groups in the community including government, trusts and foundations, clubs, companies and individuals. October 2012 - January 2013

Fee subsidies for children from disadvantaged families

Each year Learning Links raises funds to ensure children with disabilities and learning support needs can access programs that help them overcome or better cope with their difficulties, despite the families' financial disadvantage. This ensures they can access all of the intervention they need to improve their quality of life and fulfil their academic potential.

Reading 4 Life
Reading for Life is a highly successful reading program that helps primary school children with reading disorders, including dyselxia. The program provides one-on-one assistance to children to help improve their reading and lift their self esteem and confidence. It can be delivered by professionally-trained volunteers at the children’s schools, by children’s fully-trained parents at home, or by staff in schools. During this quarter, funding was received for Reading for Life from the following organisations:

On behalf of the children at Learning Links' inclusive preschool, we would like to thank Telstra Kids Fund for their donation that helped us to purchase a new computer for our children to use.

Teaching and therapy resources
Thanks to the funding from Myer Bondi and the Myer Community Fund, we have been able to purchase much-needed resources to support our programs delivered in Maroubra for children with learning support needs.

Workshops program — "Is Your Child Safe - Understanding Bullying" and "Reading at Home with Your Child"
We would like to thank both Wyong Shire Council and Manly Council for their donations, enabling us to provide free information and support sessions for parents who children are either vulnerable to bullying or who are struggling to read.

After school program
On behalf of the children and families in the Fairfield LGA, we would like to thank the Sydney Community Foundation. Kids in Philatnhropy and RBS Morgans for their donation that will enable school age children from four schools in the Fairfield LGA to attend an after school program addressing area such as literacy, numeracy, motor skills, communication and self-esteem.

Medical equipment for a child
With thanks for Cabramatta Leagues Club, we have been able to supply essential medical equipment to a very young boy afflicted since birth with multiple congenital abnormalities.

Occupational therapy resources

Occupational therapy helps children with handwriting, independent activity, visual perception and organisation. Our thanks to Fairfield RSL Club for donating funds to help in the purchase of vital resources for this program.

Support sessions for parents of children with disabilities and developmental delays
Heartfelt thanks go to Bankstown District Sports Club for funding to provide support sessions for parents attending our early childhood intervention programs at Milperra. The sessions will address the skills and challenges associated with being a parent of a child with special needs.

Assessment tool for autism
Our sincere thanks to Hurstville City Council for donating funds for the purchase of an assessment tool to assist in the diagnosis of children with autism.

Positive Learning Partners
Thanks to Bankstown City Council, Learning Links will be delivering a series of workshops for parents and children in Bankstown to equip them with knowledge and understanding of what their children are being taught at school and how they can help them at home.

Social Skills Programs
Our thanks to Campsie RSL Club and Fairfield RSL Club for funding social skills programs to help children with learning difficulties and consequent social skills difficulties. These programs will help children interact more positively with others in their world, enhancing their self-esteem and future potential.

Childcare for parenting programs
Each year Learning Links runs a range of group programs designed to inform, educate and support parents of children with disabilities and learning support needs in their pursuit of helping their child develop and learn. Thanks to Fairfield RSL Club free childcare is provided for these programs.

Engagement Strategy
Thanks to funding from Club Central Hurstville (Illawarra Catholic Club) Learning Links is developing an engagement strategy to strengthen access for vulnerable families, particularly Indigenous families.

Workshops for parents and professionals
Learning Links’ workshops provide support to early childhood professionals, therapists, school teachers and other professionals working with children with disabilities and learning support needs, to build on their knowledge, skills and professional networks. They also inform and support parents/carers of these children. City of Sydney RSL Club has donated funding for equipment to set up a city venue for these workshops.

NSW Government Community Building Partnership Program
Our warmest thanks to the NSW Government for funding under the Community Building Partnership Program. They generously granted funds for two projects at Learning Links:

  • the building of a multipurpose therapy room and learning area at Learning Links’ inclusive preschool  in Peakhurst; and
  • the installation of safe rubber flooring in the outdoor play area at Learning Links Mt Pritchard.


The Fairbridge Foundation

Heartfelt thanks go to The Fairbridge Foundation for their generous donation which will allow Learning Links to purchase a large range of resources and equipment to support our programs for children with disabilities and learning support needs.

Benevolent Society and South East Sydney Parenting Co-ordination Project
Thank you to the Benevolent Society and SESPCP for donating funds to help Learning Links run a Stepping Stones Program – a parenting program for parents of children with a disability or developmental delay.
